Day 30: Tanned Baby in Purple Blanky

Here's Beanie again, tolerating my swaddling her in her towel. The poor dog, I scooped her up while she was sleeping and started taking photos. She woke up but didn't make much of a fuss. The only time she'll hold still is when she's half asleep or deep in slumber.
Wow, I finished my 30 days! Wheee!

Day 29: Gray Knobs

These are knobs from an old bathtub. I felt they might not look pretty, but they seem to have character.

Day 28: Frayed Yellow

This is actually a lemon yellow colored rag but it turned out a darker shade with the backlighting.

Day 27 Original Sepia Shot

This is the original unedited shot as I took it. Quite blah. I used the sepia mode in-camera since I don't know how to make it sepia in Photoshop. First thing I did was increase contrast then since the hue looked pinkish I made it a bit more yellow. After that I cropped out the space above the roof, color burned the roof a little and the result was my first post. For the adjusted shot I increased the contrast a bit more and color burned the lighter parts of the photo. I didn't use curves for this shot since I haven't gotten the hang of that yet. But poking around in Photoshop has really made me learn a lot :)

Day 27: Sepia Spanish House

This is a pre-war (WW2) Spanish house which looked perfect for the sepia color I wanted to use today. No one lives there except for maybe a ghost or two :)
Thanks for the tip, kimbomac! I raised contrast a bit more and color burned some parts and it looks better now, less washed out. Edited photo on right.

Day 26: Cerulean

Inspired by Thephrog's fish photos, I thought I'd show one of my own. My fish was very cooperative, I had a much harder time taking photos of the bubbles. 'Cerulean' is such a pretty name compared to what it was originally called, 'green blue.'
3 hours later...
I've been going crazy uploading this shot. I don't know much about Photoshop and after I tried layering to include the bubbles with the fish photo, I checked it out in full view and to saw to my dismay that my black background disappeared! If it's not gray and white squares, it's white with the fish and bubbles having black edges. I finally ended up masking them against a black background. Although the upload doesn't look as clear as the original that I saved, I don't want to edit it further because the whole thing might disappear :(

Day 25: Ultra Green Olympics

McDonald's is currently selling these recycled Coca-Cola glasses with Beijing 2008 Olympics designs when you buy a Value Meal from them (just add 20 pesos, equivalent to 44 cents). My fave is the archery symbol.
As for the color, 'Ultra Green' was renamed to 'Screamin' Green' in 1990 then renamed again to 'Giving Tree' just this year. I prefer the original, though.

Day 24: Forest Green Leaf

When I think of the color green, I think of leaves right away. Are green leaf macros a cliche by now?
Note: Thanks for all your comments! I learned how to use the clone stamp tool just today and I think I did it right because I no longer see the little spots :)

Day 23: Not Red Violet Grapes

What look like grapes and feel like grapes but are not grapes? Fake grapes!

Day 22: Chewed Up Orange

My dogs love to rip these foamy balls apart. This one is on its way to oblivion.

Day 21: Tickle Me Pink

It was a bit difficult to find an angle that showed off the pinkness of the 'cat's eye' semi-precious stone since the hues changed with the angle of the light. And I just discovered a crayon color name as cutesy as this bracelet... Tickle Me Pink.

Day 20: A Blue Gray Day

I've gotten so bored of my indoor close up shots so I went outside for a change. It's been raining on and off these past weeks (Typhoon Frank recently passed us by) and today had the hint of more rain.
The house behind this wall burned to the ground years ago and it's been for sale ever since. Weeds laid claim to the place and now tower over the wall.

Day 19: Aquamarine

What's more appropriate for this color than water, or at least a water jug. That is, a water jug full of water. Which made my arm ache since I kept lifting it up to the lamp. It would have been so much easier if I just placed it on a table but the stand lamp was too tall. At least I got some exercise while taking photos :)

Day 18: Tumbleweed Twist

This is another food cover, this time handcrafted and made of abaca and rattan. This shot somehow reminds me of one of those 3D optical illusion images. A little bit dizzying.

Day 17: Red Orange Dragon Eggs

Okay, so they're actually my dogs' gelcap vitamins but dragon eggs sound so much more interesting. And if there actually were such things as dragon eggs, this is what I'd imagine they'd look like.

Day 16: Black Eye

This is Oreo again. I think she was a bit annoyed with my sticking the camera at her face. You should have seen her expression when the lamp I was balancing behind her fell on her back.

Day 15: Starry Scarlet

Yup, the challenge is 'star'ting to take its toll on me. I know it because I'm starting to take photos of my keychain. I hope the outcome is a little more than mundane, though.

Day 14: Lavender Potpourri

I enjoyed taking shots of this, the scent of lavender smelled so good and made me feel so relaxed I wanted to put my camera down, curl up in bed and slee..Zzzz

Day 13: Silver Necklace

I was looking for something silver as my color for the day and couldn't find anything at all. After hours of looking, I gave up and started reading some forum threads while playing with my pendant. Then I realized this whole time I was searching for something silver, it was just around my neck.

Day 12: Antique Brass Urn

I painted this urn or jar with my flashlight. It's quite tall, up to my elbows in height, and the top can be lifted so one can put things inside. I did peek to see if it was keeping any bone fragments and ashes but it was empty except for a pair of old slippers.
*note* I changed the title from 'Bronze Urn' to 'Antique Brass Urn'. I just discovered there's such a crayon color named 'Antique Brass' and found it more appropriate for this shot.

Day 11: Sunglow

I was pleasantly surprised that the yolk's color is the exact shade of the crayon color 'sunglow.' And it does look like the sun. The two curves on the right are reflections of the frying pan. This will be in my tummy very soon (the egg, not the frying pan.)

Day 10: Glinting Gold

Gold had always been one of my favorite colors in the crayon set. Had a hard time lighting this pouch because the light had to hit it a certain way to make the stars and moons appear.

Day 9: Red Riddle

Guess what this is ... :)

Day 8: Beige Braid

My chihuahua, Jelly Bean (aka Beanie), sniffing a gnawed wicker chair armrest. Damage was made by Oreo when she was younger and Beanie's inspecting it for the first time. Original concept was just a shot of the braided armrest but Beanie kept jumping on me so I put her on the chair and she became part of the shot.

Day 7: Green Waves

I couldn't choose between the two so I am posting them both :) I was looking at the banana leaves in the garden and this was high in the sky partly hidden by other, browner fronds. I was wishing I could get closer when I remembered, hey, I have 15x optical zoom! I wanted to make the sky bluer for the shot on the right but since my skills in Photoshop is sorely lacking, I had to make do with a just a little cropping and increasing contrast.

Day 6: Outrageous Orange Bristles

What fun to have a crayon color named 'Outrageous Orange.' These plastic broom bristles were originally plain yellow but tinkering with hue made them much more interesting.

Sunday, July 6, 2008

Day 5: Pearly Whites

My mini pinscher, Oreo: the destroyer of socks, nemesis of mice, chewer of tissues.
Here's her full body pose, to put her mug shot in context. Less scary looking this time, I hope ;) And nope, she's not pregnant, her nippies are just big because she's a little fatso.

Day 4: Blue Web

My plastic plate cover got jealous of my placemat and wanted its own picture taken...

Day 3: Magenta Bloom with Secret Star

This is the third time I've taken a photo of this kind of flower. The other two were entries in previous Worth contests. In the other shots, I wasn't able to show the hidden star and I thought it's about time to do so. I have no idea what this flower is called and it's not even from my garden. To get one, I have to sneak out to the front of my neighbor's house, make sure no one's watching, then grab a few of many which have fallen from their very tall stems and onto the pavement. If anyone were watching, I must look like a certified loony.
I've been searching the net to find out what kind of flower this is but no luck. Does anyone with a green thumb know its name? :) The petals are thick, almost rubbery in texture and they are at the end of stems which can grow as high as the house's roof, so I have to wait for them to fall to get one. I never really noticed how huge the bush is. It's monstrous!

Thursday, July 3, 2008

Day 2: Yellow Green Golden Mean

I twirled a placemat to form a cone and took a shot of it under a lamplight with a flashlight at the end and ta dah!... some strange looking Fibonacci spiral.

Day 1: Slender Brown Legs

I did not really plan on taking this shot. I was crouched on the floor trying to take a photo of my dog lying down but she wouldn't stay still and kept leaving me. That's when I noticed the table and chair legs beside me and thought...hmm, they look interesting and will at least be more cooperative. I'm very happy with the way the photo turned out :)
